The 36th ITI World Congress took place in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, from the 20th to the 25th of February 2023. The event was hosted and co-organized by the Fujairah Government, with support from H.R.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah and the Supreme Council Member of the UAE, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. The 36th ITI World Congress was held under the patronage of UNESCO.

It was the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that ITI members from all over the world were able to gather. Under the theme "Reunite, for the Performing Arts and Humanism," this Congress served as an opportunity to galvanize our community’s love of theatre and redouble the humanistic efforts we were making.

The 36th ITI World Congress aimed to build on the foundations of previous Congresses to provide an even more engaging experience for ITI members. Thus, a series of new platforms were planned, aiming to foster an open atmosphere for the Centres and Committees to speak, exchange, and find common ground for joint initiatives. ITI Centres, artists, and individuals had opportunities to present their work and update all the delegates from the world of theatre on what they had been doing since 2017.

As usual, all the necessary statutory work was dealt with through ITI General Assembly and meetings of ITI Executive Council, Committees, Regional Councils, etc. Moreover, the 36th ITI World Congress included activities such as a Summit with keynote speeches and roundtable discussions, with educational elements such as workshops for local people, and artistic activities such as top-quality performances from the countries of the Arab region and other world regions – for the Congress participants and local people.
