What is an ITI World Congress?

Normally every two years the delegates of ITI members meet in a different city on the invitation of the National Centre of the country. The hosting Centre invites delegates and observers of all members and representatives of association with ITI.

International theatre associations in relation with ITI, national politicians, World Theatre Ambassadors, Nobel Prize Winners, the leaders of UNESCO, the UN and of other international organizations may be invited as guests or as observers to the Congress.

The Congress organizer provides the facilities for the General Assembly, Executive Council sessions and all the meetings of the Committees of ITI. The program of the Congress includes a number of artistic events – performances, workshops, work presentations, symposiums, etc. – showing the current performing arts of the host country as well as international collaboration of the Committees of ITI.

The Congress is the main event of ITI. While the General Assembly is an essential element required to fulfil the statutory obligations of the organization, the host country uses this reunion of theatre professionals from all over the world as window for their own theatre productions. The meeting is important for the formulation of new goals and benchmarks for the Executive Council and the various Committees of ITI. As a theatre organization the focus is necessarily on the performing arts and collaboration through these on all levels.
